Hi there.

I’m just getting in contact on behalf on The Auction Centre, Cheshire. We’ve had a very interesting oil painting come into one of our valuation days that we believe depicts Charles Cornwallis Chesney, the brother of Francis Rawdon Chesney.

As your website has one of the best articles on Francis I thought this might be of interest to you and you might be connected with the appropriate sources to ensure the painting’s history is preserved and appreciated.

Please feel free to contact me and I’m sure more information will be available in the next week.

Kind regards,
James

Sorry James, I’m afraid we’ll be of no help to you. Our website is a local history blog with a target of one new post a week. We research a topic intensively and then publish it before moving on to the next weeks subject. Our sources are written histories – books, newspapers or pamphlets. We therefore have no contact with the family or other historians on our topics – this is a hobby history blog. I hope the sale goes well.

Sorry for the late reply – we’ve slowed down on the website over the summer and only starting to pick up the pace now

Hello
have you seen the hideous Heineken gate that has been erected over Pottingers Entry?!

What were the Morning Star thinking?!

I’m going to complain to the council about it.

Sorry, we haven’t been in Pottinger’s Entry in a while. Must call round to see it the next time we’re in town.

I read your posts about Donegore with interest as I have lived here my entire life. Unfortunately, you have named the blue house in your pictures incorrectly … that is ‘The Moat Inn’. The house you refer to as Lady Ferguson’s summer house is Moat House .

Thank you Jenny. A slip of the mind – now corrected
